- Developed sample relay setting calculations for a distribution/transmission
transformer and for a generator step-up transformer.
- Provided guidance and assistance to design engineers to create DCN packages for the
transformer standard protection schemes and panel wirings including I/O assignments, AC
and DC connections, DNP3 connections, and panel layouts.
- Provided expert subject matter and design support for application of microprocessor
relays, distribution substation associated control schemes and control logic design as
applicable in substation automation.
- Performed research and reviewed the District's current bus protection practices.
- Recommend and developed protection engineering guidelines and protection philosophy
for high voltage bus protection standards for bus with 6 breakers or less in compliance
with current regulatory requirements and IEEE standards.
- Developed relay setting templates for microprocessor relays including bus SET a
protection relay (GE-B90) and bus SET B relay (SEL-487B).
- Developed sample relay setting calculations for a 230 kV bus such as Pocket substation.
- Provided guidance and assistance to the design engineers to create drawings for the
bus standard protection schemes and panel wirings including I/O assignments, AC and DC
connections, DNP3 connections, relay/ test switch panel layouts, lock-out relays.
- Developed relay testing templates and test procedures for the generator standard
relaying scheme using Manta Test Equipment & MPower Software. The relays are:

- Performed research and reviewed the District's current transmission capacitor bank
- protection practices. Recommend and developed protection engineering guidelines and
philosophy for transmission capacitor bank protection standards in compliance with
current regulatory requirements and IEEE standards.
- Developed relay setting templates for microprocessor relays including capacitor bank
SET a protection relay (SEL-351), capacitor bank SET B relay (SEL-451) and capacitor
bank control relay (SEL-451).
- Developed sample relay setting calculations for a 230 kV capacitor such as Elk Grove
substation.
- Developed written guidelines for District's personnel to model the protection system
station service system in ASPEN One-liner, to perform relay coordination and fault
studies for similar systems.
- Provided training for District's personnel to perform fault studies in the district.
- Modeled the protection relaying system for various station service systems
throughout the SMUD district including high side transformer #1 and #2, 13.8kV unit
generators, 480V station service and excitation system. Conducted relay coordination and
fault studies for the modeled system and provided written assessments and summary of
studies and included recommendation for improvements.
